Boxing at Camp

I reworked this to maybe be a song. not sure I like it like this.

Fairy tale sunny afternoon.
Everyone here for the picnic.
the ring defined by those around it.
Dad's here. Smiling, clapping, cheering.
Laughter all around us.

the headgear is on...
the too big, too soft golves
punches thrown, dodged, landed, blocked
crazy laughter, wild like the punches
it's all just boxing at camp

Times up. Swept into a bear hug.
"Good Job! Gonna be a boxer when you grow up."
Picnic lunch, even Nana is here
trying a new treat, tootsie rolls
the sweetness lasts as i want the day to

the headgear is on...
the too big, too soft golves
punches thrown, dodged, landed, blocked
crazy laughter, wild like the punches
it's all just boxing at camp

Two hours on a too bright summer day.
5 years old, the happiest I'll ever be.
I felt it then. no words for it,
there in the center of my being.
Farther down the road almost able to name it.

the headgear is on...
the too big, too soft golves
punches thrown, dodged, landed, blocked
crazy laughter, wild like the punches
it's all just boxing at camp

Everyone smiling, laughing. Happy to be together.
Every bad time I've known
Every time I need a reason to smile.
Just think about the sun and soon...

the headgear is on...
the too big, too soft golves
punches thrown, dodged, landed, blocked
crazy laughter, wild like the punches
it's all just boxing at camp
